The XTERRA ECO TEAM is an athlete initiated program to engage the offroad triathlon community in environmental initiatives to help protect and preserve race venues, and give back to host communities.

The program includes:

  • Ecological restoration work parties at or near race venues
  • A gear recycling program for donation to bicycle advocacy programs

How does it work?

XTERRA ECO TEAM athletes make a difference ecologically by offering a few hours of time to local environmental initiatives near race courses. This could be anything from trail maintenance to park clean-up, ecological restoration, or tree planting work parties. The program kicked off in summer 2007 with a work party in Incline Village, a gear recycling drive at Vashon Island, a trail maintenance work party at the middle fork of the Snoqualmie River near North Bend WA, and a beach clean-up event in Maui. More events were added in 2008, with GU becoming a sponsor of the program, and hundreds of XTERRA athletes signed the XTERRA ECO TEAM Pledge at various races on the Tour, pledging that they would not litter on race courses and help keep trails clean.
